Amador Country Arts Council introduces FREE Second Thursday Art Projects from 3PM to 5PM for the young at heart! Classes are free, and supplies/equipment are provided. March 12, 2020: T-shirt Yarn Basket/Coaster/Door Mat ~ Learn how to cut up old tee-shirts and make chunky yarn out of them. Also learn how to crochet a basket or coaster or door mat from the tarn (t-shirt yarn).What you will need: an old t-shirt (preferably one without any side seams, and without any embroidery/printing on the chest below the sleeve). All other materials and equipment are supplied but if you have your favorite tools, we will be using the following: crochet hooks sizes I/J/K/L (5.5 mm, 6.0mm, 6.5mm, 8.0mm); a pair of good fabric scissors, a measuring tape and fabric marker.
This class is taught by Shilpa Rasmusson who was born and brought up in India, Shilpa worked in the tourism industry. In 2018 she moved to the US, into the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, to a small homestead where she volunteers and uses her spare time to upcycle and recycle anything that might end up in a landfill. All her products are made with 90% leftover or used or discarded items. She hopes her creations give you as much pleasure in using them as they gave her in making them.
Group size is limited to 16 participants ages 7 and up. Parents or guardian must accompany youth ages 7-13, release form required ages 14-17,
Doors open at 2PM, sign in is 2:30PM. Participants may finish projects at home or come in during Open Studio to complete projects Mon-Fri from 2pm to 6pm.
