Artists and photographers of all ages are invited to paint or shoot on-site at the Historic Kennedy Gold Mine, Friday - Sunday, May 21 -23, 2021, and enter their work in a competition for cash prizes.
The historic Kennedy Gold Mine’s 154 acres on Hwy. 49 in Jackson include mining buildings, machinery and artifacts, an abundance of woods and grassland habitat, and panoramic views of Jackson and Butte Mountain. The iconic head frame and giant Kennedy Tailing Wheels, the circa-1877 St. Peter & Paul Church of Clinton, and the imposing Mine Office building are just waiting to be interpreted by the artistic eye.
The first place Adult Division painting and photo will be auctioned during the Kennedy Gold Mine Founders Day Art Show & Sale, June 12 - 13, 2021 and featured in regional promotion for the event. Proceeds from the auction will be shared by the artist and the Kennedy Mine Foundation.
Second and third place winners will receive cash prizes, and all participants will be invited to show and sell their work at the Founders Day Gold Country Art Show & Sale. Amador Arts is sponsoring cash prizes for the Junior Division first and second place photo and painting entries.
One image, chosen by the Kennedy Mine Foundation, will be featured on the annual Kennedy Mine Founders Day poster.
Artwork may be any media or multi-media. Photos may be color or black and white, and may be entered in “manipulated” or “non-manipulated” classes.
The entry fee for adults is $20, and the fee is waived for students 18 & under.
Award-winning photographer Larry Angier will judge the photo division and multi-media artist and instructor Marleen Olive will judge the painting division.
