Plaid Friday

Date: Nov 26, 2021
Remember when Christmas shopping was fun? When doing holiday shopping for your loved ones was not quite so frenzied. Amador’s small businesses are bringing back the fun and joy of shopping and you’re invited. Foothill shoppers can skip the long lines and hassle of Black Friday at the mall and, instead, enjoy discounts and a personalized experience across Amador County during the eighth annual Plaid Friday on November 26, 2021. The day after Thanksgiving, dozens of Amador county retailers and eateries offer “Plaid Only” promotions such as discounts and gifts with purchases for shoppers who wear something plaid to show they support small businesses.
Plaid Friday, the shop local alternative to Black Friday is a purely grassroots movement started in Oakland that is growing across the nation. It’s growing more so as of late, here in Amador. Hosted solely by Jackson for the first few years, Plaid Friday went countywide in 2014. Amador county businesses participate all the way from Ione to Pioneer and Shenandoah Valley to Jackson.
How it works:
SHOPPERS show support for small businesses by wearing something plaid while shopping locally on Plaid Friday.
BUSINESSES, in turn, say thanks by offering a promotion or discount to these Plaid Friday shoppers. This is to encourage holiday shopping during daytime hours on Friday, November 25th (what is usually considered Black Friday).
Participating businesses are encouraged to:
-Display a Plaid Friday poster in their store or window.
- Help to get the word out by announcing their own participation through their own print and online advertising outlets.
- Encourage customer participation by offering a promotion for showing up wearing a plaid item. For example- a gift with purchase, discount, or discount with minimum purchase… get creative!
