Bistro49 Culinary Laboratory is fun, creative restaurant serving top quality meals at an affordable price. Led by ACF-award winning chef KC Brown.
In 2009 Chefs Khamel “KC” Brown and Rodney Morris met in a kitchen at Thunder Valley Casino near Sacramento, California. They curiously sampled each other’s food and it was love at first bite. They pledged to someday find a way to open a restaurant together so everyone could taste their fun, creative cuisine.
A year later they parted ways, embarking on different culinary paths, each fine-tuning their talents while working in some of the very best restaurants in California and Nevada. They knew someday they’d meet again.
Chef KC ran kitchens and catering for Marriott Hotels in Palm Springs, then moved to Reno, Nevada where he was Executive Sous Chef at Charlie Palmer Steakhouse, and later Executive Chef at Cactus Creek Prime Steakhouse where he earned the prestigious American Culinary Federation “2017 Chef of the Year” award and earned Cactus Creek the “Best Restaurant in Reno” award three straight years.
While KC was playing with his food in Nevada, Chef Rodney took his talents on the road, working at Stanley’s Steakhouse in the National Hotel, and later at Bistro Bella Cucina in Jackson and the Firehouse in Old Sacramento. But Rodney’s love of small-town life, far from the big city hustle and bustle, led him back to Jackson where he finally decided to plant himself in Mother Lode soil and call it home.
Like gravity, fate has a funny way of bringing things, and people, together.
In 2016 Chef Rodney asked his good friend Chef KC to visit him in Jackson and be a one-night “guest chef” at Stanley’s Steakhouse. One visit was all it took for KC to know Jackson was soon to be his family’s new home, too.
Together, the “Wonder Twins” KC and Rodney ran the kitchen at Stanley’s Steakhouse, using their talent and imagination to create some of the finest food in Amador County.
